Hi, I’m Bhavna—and this is my grandmother, Salomi.
The best food memories of my life began in her kitchen
I grew up in a small city in South India, in a home where food wasn’t just food—it was ritual, memory, and love. Summers meant long days in Guntur at my grandmother’s home, filled with the aromas of her cooking. Sundays were for my mom’s sambar; special occasions weren’t complete without my dad’s biryani. Food was how we gathered, connected and celebrated.
When I moved to the U.S. and started cooking for myself, something was missing. The grocery store spices were flat and flavorless—nothing like the vibrant, aromatic ingredients I’d grown up with. And on the other end, I knew how the farmers were too often underpaid and unseen.
I started Sourcery as a way to bring freshness, fairness, and flavor back to the kitchen. Because good ingredients do more than make food taste better. They tell stories, connect us to people and places, and turn everyday meals into something more meaningful.
